Mayor Harold Fowler

 Mayor E. Harold Fowler

Mayor E. Harold Fowler moved to our lovely community in 1987 from Florida.  Harold is married to wife, Teresa for more than 16 years and together they have witnessed the tremendous growth our community has experienced over the past two decades.  Teresa and their daughters Belinda, Deanna, and Sarah have supported him while he has served our community in various civic capacities.

Harold is an electrician by trade and began his career as a superintendent for a nationally recognized contractor.  For the last 24-years, Harold has worked for the United States Department of Labor.  He recently retired (2009) from the apprenticeship program as a training specialist.  He was awarded and received special recognition from the U.S. Secretary of Labor for exceptional service.  His retirement marks his intention to serve the City of Richmond Hill in a full-time capacity during his current term (2010-2013).

His career in public service began in 1995 as a committed member of the Richmond Hill City Council.  During his ten year tenure as a council member, Richmond Hill experienced an unprecedented population growth of more than 205%.  Harold helped institute many measures (zoning ordinance, subdivision ordinance, etc,) to preserve the quality of life, while gradually building the city’s housing inventory to accommodate the exceptional growth.  He was a strong proponent in the acquisition of land for J.F. Gregory Park and its development as a passive green space for the residents to enjoy.  Additionally, he was active in the development of the municipal complex.

Harold continues to serve his community through his membership in many civic organizations.  He is an active member of the Richmond Hill Lions Club for more than 15 years, as well as the American Legion Post 27.  Moreover, he served as a past president of the Richmond Hill Exchange Club after many years of civic service.

When Harold finds time to relax, his hobbies include golf and fishing.  He is an active member of the Sterling Links Golf Course and can be found there on his hours away from Richmond Hill City Hall.
