K-9 Unit 
The K-9 unit has two narcotics detection K-9's. Narcotics detection K-9's are trained to recognize the odors of narcotics. Our narcotics detection K-9's are used for traffic stops, search warrants, and demonstrations.

The K-9 unit also has two tracking K-9's. Tracking K-9's are trained to locate people. Our tracking K-9's are used to locate missing children or adults and fleeing suspects.

Special Operations Response Team (S.O.R.T)
S.O.R.T is a volunteer team of RHPD officers with advanced training in tactical operations. The team is used for search warrants, hostage situations, and any high risk activities.

Hostage Negotiations 
Hostage negotiators are officers with specialized training in talking to people who are threatening violence. The Richmond Hill Police Department currently had two officers who are trained in hostage negotiations.

Unmanned Ariel Vehicle 
The RHPD UAV (also known as a "drone") is primarily used to locate missing persons and locate fleeing suspects. The UAV is also used to assist other departments within the city such as planning and zoning. RHPD has three officers who are highly training and licensed to operate the UAV.
