Traffic Advisory: Highway 144 Widening Project

Please be advised that lane closures and flagging operations will continue this week from Timber Trail Road down to the Annex roundabout. Near Cherokee Street, Highway 144 has gone down to one travel lane with the left lane closed. Currently, eastbound and westbound traffic travels on the two eastbound lanes.

On Wednesday evening, traffic will be shifted. Travelers on Thursday morning will encounter the new traffic flow. Eastbound traffic will travel on the outer (closest to sidewalks) eastbound lane; westbound traffic will travel on the outer (closet to sidewalks) westbound lane. Residents who live in neighborhoods that turn onto the highway on the westbound side are urged to be mindful of stopping at neighborhood entrances/exits.

During the last few months of the widening project, vehicle traffic was not coming down the westbound lanes so many might be accustomed to coming to a stop in the median area to turn onto Highway 144. During this next phase of the widening project after the shift is completed on Wednesday night, the contractor will be working in the median/island areas with those two inner lanes closed to traffic. Additionally, there will be a lot of road construction activity on Highway 144 around the Timber Trail Road intersection.

Please use caution, pay attention to signs and adhere to the posted speed limit.
