4. How long can my teen have a learner's permit before taking the test?

Your teen may have the permit for up to 2 years before it expires. However, in order to take the test for the class D license they must be violation free for 1 year and 1 day.

5. How many people can ride in the car with my teen when they have a class D license?

For the first 6 months, your teen is not permitted to drive with any non-family members in the vehicle. After the first 6 months, they are permitted to drive with 1 non-family member.

6. What is the curfew for my teen while driving?

Teens cannot drive on a class D license between midnight and 6:00 am. No Exceptions!

7. How does my teen update their class D license to a class C license?

Once your teen turns 18, they can apply for the class C license with the Department of Drivers Services. In order to be eligible for a class C license, your teen must be violation free for one year and one day. Please note, If your teen is 18 years old and driving with a class D license all of the restrictions still apply (i.e. Curfew and Occupant).
