[ARCHIVED] Richmond Hill City Council Votes to Roll Back Millage Rate

After a series of public hearings and a thorough review of the city's financial position, the Richmond Hill City Council has unanimously voted to adopt the full rollback millage rate for the 2025 fiscal year. This decision will roll back the millage rate from the previously announced 4.132 mills to 3.981 mills, returning approximately $188,736 to taxpayers.

The City's strong financial management allows for this reduction without compromising essential public services. The decrease in property tax revenue will be offset by a corresponding reduction in the annual contribution to the capital improvement fund. This thoughtful approach ensures the city can provide immediate taxpayer relief while maintaining its long-term financial stability.

"This is about being good stewards of the public's money and a direct result of our proactive fiscal planning," said Mayor Russ Carpenter. "We are committed to balancing the delivery of top-tier city services with a tax rate that is both fair and sustainable for our residents. This decision reflects our commitment to a transparent and responsive government and a dedication to building a strong foundation for the future."

The City Council held three public hearings on August 21 and September 2, providing citizens with an opportunity to offer input on the proposed tax rate before the final vote was cast. The city is dedicated to its long-term vision of responsible growth and infrastructure development, ensuring that Richmond Hill remains a desirable place to live and work. The council’s decision today reflects this commitment to building a strong foundation for the future while remaining attentive to the immediate needs of its taxpayers.
